Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) condemns President Donald Trump’s explicit threats to destroy Iran’s civilian infrastructure and annihilate its population ahead of an imposed deadline. His statement that “a whole civilization will die tonight” is a genocidal threat and a clear endorsement of war crimes under international law.

Trump’s threats to target civilian infrastructure, including power grids, transportation systems, and other essential services, constitute collective punishment. Under the Geneva Conventions, the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is illegal. These statements signal intent to carry out actions that would devastate millions of innocent people and destabilize the entire region.

The President of the United States is openly flaunting war crimes in the most direct way we’ve ever seen,” said Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid. “This is not leadership. This is a direct violation of international law, and a dangerous signal that civilian lives are expendable.”

AJP Action calls on the Trump administration to immediately rescind these threats and halt any plans that would target civilians or civilian infrastructure. The United States must end this war, engage in diplomacy, de-escalate tensions, and uphold its obligations under international law.

This war is already unlawful, and irreparable damage has already been done. The United States cannot continue down this path of endless war, threats, and destruction. The consequences are already unfolding, devastating civilians in Iran and eroding the United States’ standing and credibility across the world.
