President Donald Trump has launched a direct, unprovoked military assault on Iran, dragging the United States into the possible start of yet another catastrophic and unconstitutional war in the Middle East. U.S. warplanes and naval forces, alongside Israel, have struck at least nine Iranian cities. Explosions are currently rocking Tehran, and an Israeli strike on a girls’ elementary school in Minab has reportedly killed at least 80 children and injured dozens more.
Tell your Representatives and Senators: Stop this war.
Congress must vote on an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) allowing military action against Iran. Article I of the Constitution gives Congress alone the power to declare war. By launching these strikes without congressional approval, President Trump has acted illegally and unconstitutionally. Senator Edward Markey has called the attack “illegal and unconstitutional,” while Representative Thomas Massie has said he will push for a vote on a war powers resolution because “The Constitution requires a vote.” They are right.
This war was launched while nuclear negotiations were still underway. It was done after it was clear most Americans were polled to be against the war, and it was launched in the middle of negotiations, as Oman was mediating talks around Iran’s nuclear program. Instead of allowing diplomacy to succeed, Israel and the Trump administration have chosen bombs. We know what endless war looks like. They look like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. They look like millions dead, regions destabilized, and trillions wasted. The American people do not want another unjust war.
Contact your Senators and Representatives and demand they support an immediate War Powers Resolution to end U.S. military action against Iran.
