On the back of strong grassroots organizing to ensure a vice presidential running mate that will not criminalize our movement, AJP Action welcomes Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to nominate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate over the anti-Palestinian and pro-genocide Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Together, Palestine advocates sent over 3,000 letters to Harris in just one weekend to say “no” to “Genocide Josh,” and we were heard. Now, VP Harris must continue to heed the voices of a majority of Americans who oppose the U.S.-enabled genocide in Gaza and call for a total halt on U.S. weapons to the Israeli regime.
As both the current Vice President and the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Harris has an opportunity to influence President Biden’s carte blanche policy toward Israel, which has destroyed both Biden’s legacy and public trust in the party’s most fundamental values. As a candidate for President amid a horrific genocide, it is crucial that she speak out against the status quo of unconditional support for Israel’s reckless warfare, crimes, and oppression of the Palestinian people. We urge Harris to push for an immediate ceasefire and arms embargo on Israel and to oppose Israel’s regional aggression. The death and destruction must stop, and voters across the country can be mobilized by an anti-war Democratic ticket.
Together with our base, we commend Vice President Harris for this decision and call for tangible change in Gaza. For 10 months, anti-genocide Americans have turned out in the millions to demand the Biden Administration end Israel’s genocide in Gaza. There is no more time to wait; Harris has a unique opportunity to alleviate the suffering of millions of innocent people. Nominating Governor Walz has shown that Harris is receptive and willing to listen to the will of the people. Now, Harris must continue to hear us and do what is right: push for an end to Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.
We are past-due for leadership that will stand on the right side of history.
