We are witnessing the continuation of an illegal, unauthorized, escalating war on Iran and the broader region that Congress never approved and that the American people do not support.

This war is being justified with the same tired rhetoric we’ve heard for decades, claims of “freeing” people that, in reality, only leave civilians across the region more vulnerable, destabilize entire countries, and only serve a broader agenda of control over resources and, in simple terms, colonialism.
President Trump has escalated rhetoric in recent days, language that signals genocidal intent with a willingness to expand this war at any cost. He may not have gone through with it this time, but the damage has already been done.
None of this is happening in a vacuum. The U.S. has clearly entangled itself in a war it’s losing control over, and the quiet part has been said out loud by the administration itself. This war has been waged on behalf of a foreign government and in service of a foreign entity’s agenda. The U.S. continues to shield Israel from accountability, even as it expands military actions across the region, including continued strikes in Lebanon despite ceasefire expectations tied to broader regional de-escalation efforts. The Israeli assault in Lebanon is occurring with the explicit intent of seizing and occupying Southern Lebanon, and the Israeli military has made clear its intent to ethnically cleanse Lebanese civilians from the area.
And the result? The U.S. is becoming increasingly isolated on the world stage, standing apart as it enables actions that much of the international community has condemned.
This is a political choice, and Congress has the power to change course. It has the power to do its job and retake its Constitutionally mandated role as the only entity in our government with the power to declare war. So far, Congress, including Democrats, has completely failed to do so.
